In April 2008, Nature Conservancy of Canada transferred to the NLT the 100 acre McEwen Property on the Oak Ridges Moraine, in Hope Township.
Location: Northumberland County, Hope Township, Lot 3, Concession 10
Size: 100 acres or 40 hectares.
History: Rob McEwen and his sister Catherine McEwen, the donors of the property, attended a celebration which was held outdoors, in April 2008. The snow was barely off the ground but the sun shone!
This property is a tract of rolling wooded kame forest and open fields, directly adjacent to the Ganaraska Forest. The property contains a drumlin, a beautiful pond, wetlands, a creek, forests, and retired farmland. Seventy-six bird species were recorded, 22 of which were breeding on the property. We look forward to having birders visit the property in the New Year.
